NEW LIVE MEMBERS WEBINAR: Curing Lights: How to avoid costly mistakes With
DR. RICHARD PRICE
September 12, 2023 at 8:00PM EDT
Adequately light-curing dental resins in the mouth has become an essential step of many dental visits. Yet how much were you taught about this part of dentistry?

This lecture will cover the basics of safe resin polymerization and show you how you can easily compromise the success of your restorations.  The irradiance stated by the manufacturer of the curing light is usually measured under ideal conditions, and the value can be very misleading. How to safely use curing lights and  the relevance of knowing the effects that the emission spectrum, active tip size, distance, and power output have on resin polymerization will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives:
•    Know what terms are used to describe the light output from a curing light
•    Know if their curing light is appropriate for their practice needs
•    Know how to optimize the amount of light delivered from the curing light
•    Understand how to avoid costly mistakes

Module Four: Managing Black Triangles and Closing Diastemas
Closing diastemas with composite resin  is a challenge for all of us. Post orthodontic cases are very prevalent due to a tooth size discrepancy. These require minimally invasive techniques due to the age of the patient. Obtaining proper proximal and gingival contour, adequate width, good proximal contact and blending of the composite resin into tooth structure are of outmost importance for longevity and esthetics.

This module will present a detailed step-by-step technique to close midline and other anterior diastemas. It will teach shade selection and very importantly opacity selection, tooth preparation, bonding, matrices, layering, “pull through techniques” and contouring and polishing.

        CMO Members Will Learn:
        - How to select shade and opacity of the resin composite to close diastemas.
        - To recognize when to uses various opacities to produce esthetic restorations.

This module will teach CMO members how to master direct composite resin veneers and offer these restorations to their patients.

Mastering the direct resin veneer takes understanding of preparation design, thickness of the different layers and how to use effect shades of composite to create a truly esthetic restoration that can rival porcelain. Using achromatic shades will allow the dentist to provide incisal translucency and create effects that match the natural tooth.

When you have a dark substrate how do you handle the value? Using different opaquers and understanding the use of tints will be taught in detail. How deep should you prepare the tooth depends on a number of factors. These will be addressed and tips will be given on how to treat the endodontic tooth. Finishing and polishing for maximum longevity will be shown. How to fabricate a single central incisor veneer is challenging, and you will learn how to accomplish this in an efficient manner.

        CMO Members Will Learn:
        - The preparation design and depth for maximum strength and esthetics.
        - How to use opaquers and tints to create natural looking teeth.
        - How to create multiple side by side restorations.
        - How to use a lingual matrix for increasing the length.
        - Which burs work best to create surface texture.
        - What polishing system will give you the best result.
