One Week after Minimally Invasive Implant Surgery
I thought I would share some photos from the one-week post-operative appointment with the implant surgery case I posted last week in this blog. As you can see the case has healed really well at the one-week mark and the tissue looks excellent. The patient reported virtually no pain, swelling or bleeding post surgery and should be ready for the final impression next month.
If you are noticing a subtle difference in the color between the pictures in the 2 posts it is because they were taken in different rooms with different cameras. My dental hygienist Anna using a Nikon D200 camera and a Nikon 105 Macro lens with a Nikon SB 29s Macro Flash took these pictures and I took the pictures in the previous post using a Nikon D3s camera with a Nikon 105 VR Macro lens and the Nikon R1C1 Macro Flash System. I think that both sets of pictures look excellent. Can you see some slight differences between these two cameras?

Hi Stephen
Nice job indeed. If you placed the implant 1 week ago and will be taking impressions to start restoring in one month, the case should be completed in about 6-7 weeks. Is this enough time for full osseointegration and loading? If so let me know what system you are using. I typically wait 3-4 months before proceeding with the final impriessions. So obviously this would save alot of time. Thanks.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the question.
The implant is a Straumann Bone Level implant with the SLA surface. The research shows that the SLA surface will achieve osseointergration by four to six weeks with good quality bone with a healed ridge not an immediate extraction site. As you can know it is not always easy to determine the quality of the bone during surgery so I am using the Osstell to measure the implant stability at the time of placement. I will also measure the implant stability with the Osstell at the time of the impression and if the reading has decreased I will wait another 4 weeks to take the final impression. Patients really appreciate the ability to have their restorations sooner.
Speaking of implants, I am heading to Switzerland tomorrow to take the Masters Course in Esthetic Implant Dentistry at the University of Bern, with Dr. Daniel Buser and Dr. Urs Belser.

Looks realy nice indeed. Good work.
I would certainly change the distal restoration on the cuspid before inserting the final restoration on the premolar.

I agree! part of the final treatment plan is to replace that restoration when we take the implant impression.
