We have just completed the installation of a new Apple computer network in my office and I am happy to report that it is working the way that I had hoped. I had a vision to create a Apple network with iMac workstations running Mac applications as well as Abeldent and Sidexis at the same time using Parallels and the Mac OS. I thought about switching to MacPractice but I was worried that I would loose too much data in the conversion. The other reason I decided to stick with Abeldent is that my digital radiography system did not have Mac drivers that worked with MacPractice.
In my main treatment room I have installed a Mac mini with a 24-inch Apple display that is attached to my Sirona Kappler cabinet and it also looks really sharp. The nice thing about the Mac mini is that it has an HDMI out and I can connect it to the 50-inch plasma display we have mounted in the room. I am having the HDMI connection installed in 2 weeks along with a switch to connect the mini to a 52-inch LCD display in my consultation room. I will post some pictures when that is completed in a month or so.
My patients have really liked the system and the high-tech look of the Mac computers. The Mac displays look excellent and the digital radiographs really pop on the screen! I have attached a couple of photos of some of the workstations for you to see.
I am curious if anyone else has installed a similar network? Please feel free to leave and comments or suggestions by clicking on the link above.

How much would it cost

Hi Barry,
Abeldent is a practice management software from north america that is PC based. We are running it on our Mac network with Sidexis and it seems to be working well.
Best of luck with your switch.
Thanks, Stephen

Hi Stephen
I’m based in the UK and have had sirona equipment for many years with sidexis digital x ray system. I’m hoping to go completely mac in the surgery and office and was concerned about the switch. Excuse my ignorance but what is Abeldent? Is it a dental programme or a PC application/ Thanks. Barry

Looks really nice. I love the detail in images on the macs.
I have recently bought a practice in northern Ontario and am looking into software, computers, etc.
I use Macs at home and really like them, but was unsure if Abeldent was compatible. No one up here has done anything like this. Definitely something to think about as I try to modernize my dated practice.
Any tips would be appreciated. Really nice.
Judy

Hi Judy,
I am using a windows server with all of the workstations as iMacs and one Mac Mini. We have set up the network to run parallels with windows XP and the Abeldent runs on that but looks like another mac application on my desktop because the Mac OS is running at the same time. I can give you the contact information for my IT person if you like and maybe he can act as a consultant for you.
Regards,
Stephen Phelan

Thank you!

I love it. We have the exact same Abeldent and Sidexis. We love Macs but never had the nerve to change to Mac on Parallels. We now have hope again. Thanks

Hi Dan,
I have been thinking about it for a few years and finally made the switch. I am still using a Windows server and my IT person who prefers Macs as well thinks we need to keep the windows server. If you are in the GTA, I could give you the name of the person who set it up and installed the system.
Thanks, Stephen Phelan
